We can live without luxury facilities, but can’t live without water”
Yes while we know about the importance of water but still we have done many thing to trash it.
More than 70% of world’s waste water is dumped into river, lake, ocean and environment without treatment, which causes for water pollution.
So ultimately we are getting pollutant water from the water bodies.
There is only less than 3% drinking water available of total available water on earth, and most of it has been polluted.
Water pollution is a very serious concern over the world. So here we are talking about the water pollution, its causes and effects on environment.

What is water pollution?
Water pollution is defined as the contamination of water resources or water bodies due to interruption of human activities. Water bodies are river, lake, pond, stream, aquifer and other reservoirs.
What are the causes of Water pollution?
Water pollution is the result of various human activities. We all know , water is a universal solvent means water is able to dissolve more substance than other liquid. So water can easily polluted.
The causes of water pollution are chemical substance from cities, town, farms and industries which readily dissolve into and mix in it and result in water pollution.
There are two types of source for contamination of water, point source and Non-point source.
When contamination takes place from single source , it is called point source pollution. Example, waste water discharge by facility from manufacturer directly into water bodies.
When contamination takes place from diffuse sources, it is called non-point water pollution. For example, leaching out of nitrogen compound from agriculture land, storm water runoff, debris blown into waterways from land.
What are the types of water pollution?
Water is available in from different source on our earth i.e. ground water, surface water, water vapors, ocean water, and ice land.
Ground water pollution
Ground water is most important natural resource of water as it stores the rain water in porous spaces of aquifer in deep earth. Many part of the earth, it is the only fresh water source.
Ground water gets polluted due to use of pesticides and fertilizer for agriculture purpose. Pollution of ground water aquifer is very severe concern as once it is polluted; aquifer may be unusable for decades.
Since ground water is not stationary , it flow from one place to another, its contamination may spread to other water resources like stream, lakes and pond.
Surface water Pollution
All the water bodies i.e. lakes, rivers; streams etc visible on the earth are filled due to surface water. If we look at the present scenario, water bodies are too polluted to use for swimming , fishing, and drinking.
Surface water contamination takes place to farm waste, fertilizer run off, industrial waste, and municipal waste discharge.
Ocean Water Pollution (Marine pollution)
Around 97 percent of total water is available as ocean on the earth. Marine pollution mostly originates on land –whether along the coast or far inland.
Most of the pollutants, chemicals and heavy metals, are carried from farm, cities and factories by rivers and streams into oceans.
Increase amount of plastic as marine debris is the major environmental concern for marine ecosystem.
Ocean helps to clean our environment by absorbing most of man-made carbon emission.
Effects of water pollution
Our nature is made up of five elements soil, water, fire, air and sky. if one of element among these five element get disturbed , it will disturb the nature.
So water is an important element of nature, without which no one can live on the earth.
Water pollution effects are very severe for life on the earth.
Water pollution leads the land degradation for agriculture and ultimately it reduces the land productivity.
Water pollution impact on health is a burning issue. Most of the diseases are due to drinking polluted water which carries a lot of bacteria and virus.
Waterborne pathogens are a major cause of illness from contaminated drinking water
Swimming in polluted water can causes for many skin infections.
Water pollution affects the food chain and ecosystem, especially marine environment. Involvement of toxic components in water from industry waste, plastics, results in decrease in oxygen level in water. Which result in death of water animals and plants or many times it creates a dead zone in water bodies where water are essentially devoid of life.
How can you prevent water pollution?
“You are the creator of your own destiny” we have heard many times this word but it is true. Our efforts and actions towards reducing water pollution will create a bright future for us.
There are many things you can do to prevent water pollution.
Reduce use of plastic, and if still you use than reuse and recycle the plastic where you can.
Use organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers as it will increase the land productivity as well as reduce the pollutant.
Government should create policies to reuse waste water in industries and treat the waste water before dispose into water bodies.
Plant more trees as you can, as it will increase the rain fall and reduces the toxic components in soil.
Motivate people to clean cities and places near water bodies by dispose of plastic cane and begs to recycle plants.
Inspiration and motivation is the best thing, you can do to save water bodies. Motivate as much people you can to participate in save water campaign.
