Plaques that buildup within the blood vessels contain many dead or dying cells that are not flushed out by the immune system fast enough. These plaques are the underlying cause of strokes and heart attacks. Researchers reported that a new drug-loaded nanoparticle could dig out the atherosclerotic plaques and stimulate WBCs to clear out the cellular debris within.
